The Essential Wellness Approach

Essential Wellness was created to promote a natural approach to health and wellness. Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves, but the stresses of everyday living tear down our body’s natural defense mechanisms and weaken our immunity system. In addition, we are increasingly exposed to a great number of synthetic chemicals: products we apply to our bodies, foods and medications we consume, products we use to clean and furnish our homes. As a result, our health and well-being is compromised. Through the use of essential oils and holistic bodywork, Essential Wellness seeks to alleviate a host of physical problems and enhance overall health and well-being.

Janice (Jan) Landfair

Practicing since 2012, I received my certification in massage therapy from the National Massage Therapy Institute, NMTI, in Falls Church, VA. I am licensed in Virginia by the Department of Health Professions, Board of Nursing.

In addition to therapeutic massage I have training in Cranial-Sacral Release, Myofascial Release, Chakra Balance, Raindrop Therapy, and am a Reiki Master.

In 2010 a family member was diagnosed with a terminal illness. At a certain point in her illness, she would become confused and agitated. During one particular visit, she was agitated and distraught. Not knowing what else to do, I sat and held her hand. It seemed to have an immediate calming effect. During subsequent visits, I would make a point of holding her hand or stroking her arm. From that experience, I began to research touch therapies and became interested in massage therapy.

I believe the body has an innate ability to heal itself. I also believe the mind plays a huge role in the dis-ease we experience in our bodies. I enjoy using the body-mind connection as a natural approach in helping people achieve wellness.

I think it is awesome to feel muscle tension easing between my hands, or to have a client come in who can barely turn their head and leave with less pain and greater range of motion. I love putting the body-mind puzzle pieces together: determining what is going on is someone’s life, how that life experience is playing out in their body, using massage or other bodywork to flip the switch at the cellular level and allow the body to correct itself. It is simply rewarding to help someone experience greater health and wellness.
